Knicks, Julius Randle celebrate franchise’s first postseason trip since 2013
The Knicks weren’t in action Wednesday night, but they still emerged as one of the Eastern Conference’s biggest winners of the day.
By virtue of the Celtics’ 102-94 loss to the Cavaliers, the Knicks clinched one of the top six seeds in the East. Boston was the only team that could have pushed the Knicks into the play-in tournament, but without Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown, it fell to a Cleveland team that was on an 11-game losing streak. The trip to the playoffs marks the first for the Knicks since the 2012-13 season when they lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals. At that time, Mike Woodson was the coach, Carmelo Anthony was the team’s star player and leading scorer, and the starting lineup was rounded out by the likes of Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton and Iman Shumpert.

Yankees expected to play Rays despite Phil Nevin’s ‘breakthrough positive’ COVID test
The Yankees on Tuesday confirmed reports of a “breakthrough positive” test among a vaccinated member of their coaching staff ahead of their night game against the Rays. The information was detailed in a statement released by the team. The positive test belongs to third-base coach Phil Nevin, who is currently under quarantine in Tampa. While Boone confirmed that no players had tested positive or were involved in contact tracing as a result of Nevin’s positive test, he did say that “a few other staff/coaches are still pending.” Those members of the team are quarantining and will not be available against the Rays. That includes first base coach Reggie Willits, per NJ.com, so the Yankees will have two new base coaches with Nevin and Willits out. Baseball development coordinator Mario Garza will man first base; bench coach Carlos Mendoza will be the third base coach.
