Jael Brooks, a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers, described the nearly deadly toll the Coronavirus pandemic has had on her and other health workers as they confront the crisis in a region with the highest number of confirmed cases in Westchester County. Brooks said that with a close colleague and a hospital supervisor now on ventilators, she has been told unofficially to attend patients —many of them Latinos —for only five minutes to prevent contracting the virus herself. Brooks, originally from Venezuelan, had a special message for the Latino community, since this week the peak of the pandemic will be the highest hospitals in the state of New York would have seen so far. 

Jael Brooks, una enfermera registrada del Centro Médico St. Joseph en Yonkers, describió el impacto casi mortal que la pandemia de Coronavirus ha tenido en ella y otros trabajadores de la salud mientras que enfrentan la crisis en la región con el mayor número de casos confirmados en el condado de Westchester. Brooks dijo que con un colega cercana y un supervisor del hospital ahora en ventiladores, a ella se le ha dicho no oficialmente que atienda a los pacientes —muchos de ellos latinos—, sólo por cinco minutos para evitar contraer el virus. Brooks, originaria de Venezuela, envió un mensaje especial a la comunidad latina ya que a partir de esta semana, el pleno ascenso de la pandemia en el estado de Nueva York superará lo que los hospitales han visto hasta ahora.
