Thomas E. Schindler, Lakeville resident and author of A Hidden Legacy: The Life of Esther Zimmer Lederberg, on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 PM. Lederberg made groundbreaking discoveries that contributed to the biochemical understanding of the gene and the new fields of molecular biology and bacterial genetics. Esther was ignored as her husband Joshua Lederberg received the Nobel Prize for their joint work in 1958. Schindler now gives her the attention her incredible achievements deserve.
As well as being a scientific genius, Lederberg was a gifted musician, a passion she turned to after the end of her research career.
Tom Schindler is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a PhD in microbiology and immunology from the University of Illinois-Chicago. After working in biotech research and development, he pursued a career as a high school chemistry teacher at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. He has devoted the last several years to telling Lederberg’s story and shares her love of early music.
