The Berkshire Edge On-Air – Wednesday November 13, 2019

The Berkshire Edge LLC is a locally owned, regional publication. Our goal is to provide – regularly and in depth – content that truly reflects the life, interests and aspirations of this unusually rich and vibrant community.

Guided by respected journalistic standards, the principle of fairness, the quest for truth, a commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, and an abiding admiration for the independent spirit of the Berkshires, The Berkshire Edge offers in-depth local news reports and features, perspectives on the arts, wide-ranging commentary, and a comprehensive calendar of events – all written, illustrated, and, in some cases performed, with wit, intelligence, insight and humor.

1. Cannabis corruption — so soon.  A federal investigation is looking into the agreements between marijuana providers and towns — “host community agreements” ….

2. Here we go. The Joseph Kennedy campaign for Senate — to replace fellow Democrat Ed Markey — rolled into Pittsfield last weekend…

3.  And of course we can’t go a week without mentioning the administrative woes of the Southern Berkshire Regional School District. In this piece we write that students and staff deserve better than what the dysfunctional administration and School Committee are allowing to transpire.

4. Whether horse racing will ever return to the Great Barrington Fairgrounds has become a battle over home rule, with state Sen. Adam Hinds submitting a bill that would grant state permission. A special town meeting on the issue may be scheduled:

5.  Carolyn Newberger is providing our readers with remarkable reflections — in the spirit of Henry David Thoreau’s On Walden Pond — of the land around her house in Lenox. She calls it “Illuminating the Hidden Forest.” And this week we published Chapter 19… they’re lovely ruminations on nature, with her splendid illustrations.

6. Finally, we have a amusing piece about a city slicker from Los Angeles who moved to the Berkshires, only to encounter a different kind of wildlife: bears and mountain lions.
