The Lakeville Journal Foundation, established in the summer of 2021, took ownership of the two papers to sustain and expand them. Building on the loyalty and passion of the readers and volunteers who have kept the papers afloat, the nonprofit foundation is dedicated to the idea that flourishing communities need flourishing community journalism.
The Lakeville Journal (established 1897) and Millerton News (1932) are survivors, the leading sources of news for generations of inhabitants of the towns and villages of northwestern Connecticut and eastern Dutchess County in New York. They’ve withstood the online advertising migration that undermined the economic foundation of American journalism and has forced more than 2,000 local newspapers to close since 2005.
