For twenty years Donald Sosin and Joanna Seaton have been among the only major performers in the US creating vocals as well as instrumentals for classic silent films, and have won high praise from experts in the field, as well as enthusiastic supporters of all ages everywhere they appear. “
The top of the line of film pianists!”—Leonard Maltin, film critic.
“Our audience adores them!”—Margaret Parsons, National Gallery of Art.
Donald and Joanna bring their unique blend of keyboards, vocals and percussion to major film festivals—New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Telluride, TriBeCa and more,—and to MoMA, BAM, AFI Silver, Moscow’s prestigious Lumière Gallery, the Thailand Silent FIlm Festival, and the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival in South Korea. They are favorite guest artists at Washington’s National Gallery and perform each year at Italy’s silent film retrospectives in Bologna and Pordenone. They have appeared at Yale, Harvard, Brown and Emory Universities, and created scores for over 60 silent film DVDs on the Criterion, Kino, Milestone, Flicker Alley and other labels.
Joanna, a native of Manhattan, was an Ivory Soap Baby. Called a “silvery soprano” by the New York Times, she has a Theatre Arts degree from Cornell University. She has appeared in over 80 Off-Broadway, regional, and stock theatre productions, and has sung with jazz great Dick Hyman at the 92nd St. Y.
Donald grew up in Rye NY and Munich and played on Broadway for many years, after composition studies at Michigan and Columbia. His music has been heard on PBS, TCM, as background for the network soaps, and in many contemporary films.
The couple met doing a show on 42nd Street. They travelled with the Broadway tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for 14 months, teaching over 1000 children to sing, dance and act for the show. They have two musical children and live in Lakeville CT.
