Marshall Miles Interviews Representative Maria Horn and Region One Superintendent Lisa Carter: Food Assistance Program Being Offered to Region 1 Residents

Connecticut Representative Maria Horn announced news of a food assistance program being offered to Region 1 residents.

As part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program that Secretary Perdue announced on April 17, the USDA is exercising authority under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to purchase and distribute agricultural products to those in need. A donation will be received from this program in the form of boxes of fresh produce that can be distributed to Region One families. This gift is coming as part of a grant to Friendly Hands in Torrington.

Delivery and distribution will take place at the Housatonic Valley Regional High School (HVRHS) at 246 Warren Turnpike Road in Falls Village on Saturday, June 27th from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

The produce will be delivered in boxes that are approximately 12” x 18” and will contain apples, carrots, onions, potatoes and other fresh fruits and vegetables that are available at this time of year. Boxes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Those who wish to receive a box of produce should come to HVRHS where volunteers will be awaiting your arrival. For your protection and the protection of our volunteers, we ask that you do not exit your vehicle and you wear a mask. The volunteers will be wearing masks and protective gloves.
Volunteers will direct you in/out of the parking lot and load your box into your vehicle.

If you are unable to pickup your box of produce, please contact Lisa Carter, Interim Superintendent at (860) 307-0979.
